"Never
look at the trombones, it only encourages them." Richard Strauss
High Altitude Trombone Quartet
Mission of the Quartet
The High Altitude Trombone Quartet is a dedicated group of
professional musicians whose mission is to broaden the acceptance of the
trombone in chamber music settings. The group was co-founded by Bill Holst
and Jeremy Van Hoy. Our name,
High Altitude, refers to not only our home state of Colorado, but the high artistic standards
toward which we aspire. We
believe that our name represents our musical diversity and excellence.
6th Annual Christmas Program - December 6th,
2002 - 7:30pm
The Quartet will present our 6th annual Holiday/Christmas
Program at 1st Lutheran Church on December 6th at 7:30pm. This year's
featured guest trombonists include Tom Stark, new principal trombonist with the
Colorado Springs Symphony Orchestra, and long-time friend, collaborator,
arranger, and son, Andy Holst. We have several new arrangements, including
a selection from the Bach Christmas Oratorio, and a new jazz arrangement by
Jeremy.
Spring Jazz Program
We are planning an all Ellington program with a surprise guest
artist who couldn't make it to a previous concert!
Recent Events
The Quartet recently performed in the first Rocky Mountain
Trombone Festival at the new music building at the University of Denver.
We shared a program with Ralph Sauer, principal trombonist with the Los Angeles
Philharmonic, and the Colorado Symphony low-brass section.
Other Recent Events
2002 Trombone Day - May 11
We were pleased this year to have special guest trombonist Alex
Iles, an L.A. studio recording artist. This was an all day event at Lewis-Palmer High
School in Monument. Click here for
information and a registration form.
High Altitude Gershwin
Our opening program for the 2001 season was "High Altitude Gershwin"
featuring the quartet, rhythm section, and special guest trombonist Ryan
Haines from the Band of the Rockies. Wycliffe
Gordon, our scheduled soloist, was unable to make it due to restricted
travel caused by the World Trade Center disaster. We played to a packed
house at Packard Hall, Colorado College on September 16, 2001
at 3pm. Because of not having a major soloist fee, the Quartet and the
Pikes Peak Jazz and Swing Society were able to donate over $1000 to the disaster
relief effort!
Prior Events
We performed several events during for the 2000-2001 season. We
performed our World Tour kickoff concert in Bennett, Colorado on April
29th. We then repeated our "Jazz on a Saturday
Afternoon at the Warehouse" with our featured soloist Al
Hermann! This program also featured outstanding local trombonists Andy Holst,
Rick Crafts, Karl Bradley, and Mark Burditt. Please review our upcoming
events to preview this and next year's program!
